Equus 3551 Xenon Inductive Timing Light Best Review

Works well, seems sturdy enough. The only reasons I didn’t give it a five are for a few minor points, one design, one construction. Design…I don’t see any reason this unit couldn’t have been made more compact & therefore easier to store. There’s no real need for it to be any wider than it is in the handle area, & I’m not sure why it needs to be so long, unless it’s to help get the light end closer to the timing marks on some engines (I bought to use on a Miata). Construction…The battery clamps could be a bit heavier duty & have better covers than the typical slip-on plastic sleeves that eventually slip off & go missing. Springs are nice & srong, though.

Things I did like: Bright light. On/off button that doesn’t need to be held down. Contemporary design. Swivel head is convenient. Removable cord makes untangling and preparing for storage easier. Induction clamp seems solid. Case is hopefully a tough ABS plastic that will withstand normal knocks & has no need for silly “chrome” plating.

It is very basic, but works fine. Detachable cable is nice. … Thought I was getting tach readout also but apparently I misread the ad?? I could see the marks in the daytime OK. ON-OFF switch and tilt lens is about the only option, but it worked fine.

I bought this unit for my daughter. She drives about twice a month and for not more than 4 miles or so. About every six months her battery would go dead and she would have to getit recharged. She parks out side with the car facing north so with this unit mounted on the rear shelf it gets the sunshine most of the day and keeps her battery charged. Keep in mind that this unit produces enough amperage to keep the battery charged but so little it would take almost forever to charge a dead battery if at all. It does an excellent job for what it was designed for.The term trickle charger is a misnomer. A better term would be a battery charge maintainer. Maximum output is 1/10th of an amp.

Biggest waste of cash I ever made.
I set it up in the windshield of my 2007 Mazda 3, whenever I took the key out the car would make an angry alert noise until I unplugged the charger from the lighter. Then after about 3 day of this it just stopped working. Not sure if it shorted out or what, maybe I got a defective model, or maybe it’s just not compatible with a 2007 Mazda3…whatever the reason, this piece of crap stopped working after only a couple of days, I feel ripped off.

I’m buying another one for a little car because it works so well in my truck. I know it’s not a charger, but, the range on my key mounted remote starter increased after a couple days of installing the maintainer. I was skeptical, but, this thing rocks. My lights are brighter, and I’m really happy with this purchase. Even if you drive all the time (like I do), I don’t see why you wouldn’t have one of these on every car you own. This thing is great.

I bought this last month to use in Asia – mostly to recharge my Oral B Pulsonic electric toothbrush (very cheap of Braun to make something that is obviously good to take on trips but can’t be plugged in overseas – the charge can only take 100-130v input, whereas input in Asia is 200-240v!). The converter brick is about 2″x2″x3″, or about 2 or 3 decks of playing cards stacked together, but weighs at least 2pounds! As other reviewers have noted, it heats up when something is being charged/plugged into it. I was worried at first but having charged my toothbrush 2x now for periods of +24hr continuously, I’ve notice the brick heats up to a certain level of warmth (not exactly hot) and doesn’t get worse/hotter..so it’s probably safe/okay. I’m pretty happy with it given the price vs. what one might have to pay at RadioShack

I am about to buy a second one after using the first one for three years continuously. It is still working nicely but I need another one for a different room. I have used it permanently with an extension cord where I plugged in a printer, a scanner and a PDA cradle. I did not experience any cut outs as another reviewer mentioned. Also, based on my experience, I do not agree that the product might not be meant for permanent use. I do use it continuously in a context with very unpredictable voltage and had no problems.

It certainly took long enough for someone to make a quality multibit screwdriver. Most others hold the bits outside where they can fall off, or just keep them loose in the handle so you have to dump them all out, pick the one you want, and then stick the rest back in one at a time. This one has a rack attached to the inside of the end cap. They all come out together and you can go right to the one you want, and you can slip the rest back in all together.

The ratcheting mechanism and planetary gears feel much smoother than any other screwdriver I’ve used. The speed increase is great, and it’s easy to switch between 4x and normal use. This is the best screwdriver anyone could want, and it’s not even expensive.

I chose this driver because its geared action gives 4 turns of the screw to 1 turn of the handle. It’s for low-torque applications, such as opening battery compartments of my child’s electronic toys — my purpose for this screwdriver. (You can lock the driver for high-torque needs.)

In order to get this geared action, you hold the collar near the driver end, and turn the handle with the other hand. This is where the device lets you down. It seems inevitable that the bit will come out of position off the screw, especially with the small screws found on batt compartments. You’ll have to stabilize the toy, for example, between your legs. (’Danger’?)

I’m now eying the Black & Decker 6 Volt Alkaline Screwdriver AS6CLRS 130 RPM ( at WalMart), although that one takes 4 AAs. The SmartPro Speed Driver doesn’t need batteries, and that fact keeps the ‘thrill’ alive. With all my son’s battery-powered toys, I predict that I’ll be changing batts out of screw-secured compartments often. I don’t want to worry about whether my screwdriver has power.

Great Neck 952DE 4-in-1 Stubby Ratcheting Screwdriver w/ 4-Bits or any similar will do, and will cost you much less.

Recently I’ve been moving around a lot, so I decided it would be much easier to have one all-in-one screwdriver, instead of a bunch of screwdrivers I have to keep track of. This is the second of three different types of all-in-ones that I tried.

The handle is very unergonomic, and the screwdriver weighs a lot. Worse the weight is distributed poorly.

The bits in the handle seem like a good idea, theoretically, but one bit I pulled out (instead of sliding it out) kept falling out until I bent the holder back into shape. And, no the instructions don’t tell you to slide them, nor is it obvious. Plus metal shavings came off of the one bit I used!

Perhaps some people will benefit from the 4:1 speed mode, but I didn’t. If you really need this I think you’ll be much happier with an electric screwdriver.

I just bought this today at Target: STANLEY 9 in 1 Screwdriver Set Model 62-511 So far I am so much happier with it.

I’m going to return the SmartPro to Amazon.

I just received the 5 w panel. I find that it is very sturdy. It is under a glass panel and surrounded by aluminum sides. The two wires are about 12 inches. In full sunlight, on a clear day, I measured about .32A (that’s 320mA). If you cover one cell in the panel, the current drops to less than a few mA. So avoid shadows.
The aluminum frame has predrilled holes and comes with strait brackets (two holes).
When I placed the panel on the dash board of my car, the current measured was 180mA.
So, I plan on mounting them on top of my car. I think it has a blocking diode inside the panel.
The panel is sealed with what looks like caulking.
I didn’t understand the price until I received the product.

Its been a year and change (7/22/2008).
The solar panel sits out in the parking lot in the hot summer and in the freezing cold winter.
I paired the panel with a 12V 26AH (26000mAH) AGM SLA battery (Lead Acid). It powers small electronics like a clock, mp3 players, cell phone charger, GPS, etc… Its on a separate circuit from the rest of the car.
So far this experiment has been working out fine. I got my Garman GPS powered by the charged battery for about an hour a day and my mp3 player for at least two hours a day while I’m driving. I’ve been trying to drain that battery, but solar panel keeps it topped off.
Not bad for the 10 hours of low angle sunlight I get here in the north.
Excellent product if you know what to do with it.

The panel came as promised, but it turned out that the five watts was not sufficient to run the pump on my solar water heater – it needs 10 watts.

Bought this to power my Mighty Mule gate opener, which has a built-in charge controller. It does the job at a fraction of the price of the Mighty Mule 5 watt panel. You may not need a charge controller if you are using this for something that has one built-in. The instructions deal mostly with RV use. Many RV’s have a built-in controller for a solar panel. It comes with mounting hardware for attaching it to a flat surface. You will have to build a mount to support it at the desired angle. I built one out of a small piece of plywood and a short 2X4 cut at an angle, but you could use metal as well. Connection is easy, just connect the two wires. When mine arrived (quickly) the mounting hardware bag had come open and the pieces were sliding around in the box. I thought it had broken in shipping, but fortunately opened it and found everything OK.

This 5W panel performs great. It is everything the description says. Very easy to install. I had a charge regulator already, so it was easy for me to connect this heavy duty panel to power my weather station.

I had tried hooking up my own solar panel array by piecing together smaller flimsier solar panels with disappointing results. With 6 200mA panels, I still wasn’t getting enough juice. A multimeter revealed that the total output was 200 mA for all 6! (3 sets of 2 9V panels in parallel).

With just this one CDT panel I’m getting more than enough power. The already installed heavy gauge pre-tinned wires are about a foot long, so I ended up having to connect some additional wire to them. I was just thankful the wires were already connected (very securely) to the panel already. My past experiences with connecting wires to solar panels has been very frustrating.

This solar panel has an internal diode to prevent back flow of current when it’s dark or cloudy. It’s hard to believe the excellent quality I got for the price.

Have used this panel for over a month. Shipping was super quick (3 days fm purchase to mailbox fm CA to VA). Works incredibly well. Pumps out 17 volts and .3 amps. I will need another one to get me over the .48 amps I need to run a fan on a solar wood kiln. But excellent value and great product.

This product is a geat value for the money. It is a very versatile puller. There are jaws that will work for jusk about any task, and you can easily modify the jaws where necessary using a bench grinder. One of the sets of jaws are specially made to grab onto hex-head cap screws, another set has a curve built into them to wrap around fat pulleys, and you can always make your own jaws if so inclined. All you need to do is cut a slot in the home-made jaws to slide over the straight cross bar that the forcing screw goes into.

The jaws and the forcing screw are all very heavy duty. You should be able to exert a tremendous amount of force with this puller. This puller will likely have a wide variety of uses on different pieces of equipment and I think its a worthy investment. The carrying case is nice too!

I need long screw drivers for working on computer components inside computer cases. The shaft on these screwdrivers measures 1/4 inches wide. The blade tapers to just over 1/16 inches and it does not taper to a point. So, it’s probably not going to work out, except on the largest case screws.

Also, the screwdriver shaft measures 19 1/2 inches long and the handle is 3 1/4 inches long.
